The Wright Brothers Plane
We had decide to change one out of 3 plane into a plane similar to Wright brothers.
the reason why we decide to change is
-The original plane weight is too heavy cause the plane cant perform it maxium range
-The body is too long causing it to be heavy
-CG is out when the weight placed on the plane is remove
We had change
-The vertical and horizontal stabilizer as front
-Move the wing to the back as the back
-Remove the weight and length of the glider
-It track is better than before

Derek, actually these few days as i am observing our new design... i realize that the dihedral was doing alot of work, correcting its level flight once it was launched, compare to the previous design.... These movement could lost precious energy that are converted from the launcher to the glider after launch... will cost us flight distance ... what do you think?
ReplyDeleteLast point of thout... if this design of Wright brother is so "right"... why are all the plane we see in this century still has their vertical and horizontal at the trailing side of the plane?

ReplyDeleteMy thinking, why moden day plane stabilizer is at the back because
ReplyDelete-it create alot of pull infront when there is no airfoil shape when launch and the stabilizer does not give lift but add more weight in front
-it also block the driver view when flying
Our previous design is a moden plane when it launch the airfoil help to lift a great high and overcome the heavy weight to change to CG
So we need to think how to create more lift or we will redo a new plane
if we want to have lift infront we can try to make airfoil shape in front to create lift
You are referring to the canard design on fixed wing aircraft. Information here:
ReplyDeletehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canard_(aeronautics)
The canard design may spell trouble for pitch stability. Current canard designs involve a lot of electronic aid thereby solving the pitch issue. Canard designs also mean a larger main wing thus larger drag and weight. Typical examples are the Eurofighter Typhoon, Sukhoi SU-35, Rafale etc.
The only way to know is to actually build an actual model to investigate its effectiveness.
One thing to ponder, if the Wright brothers built Kitty Hawk with a rear horizontal stabiliser, the plane might have flown further and longer.
i realise that, if we want to make the plane almost the same it too hard to do it because it need too much energy to overcome the weight of double horizontal stabilizer and wings as the model plane only need 1 horizontal stabilizer and wing.In a short time we unable to make a glider which is like wright brother.
